Don't Look Back.

Weightlifting and Sprinting have a lot in common. Both activities rely on steady nerves and supreme focus. At the start of a 100 meter race the sprinter sees only the finish line. Once the starting gun goes off, the sprinter cannot afford to lose focus for an instant. One quick glance back to the right or left and the race can be lost. The same goes for any weightlifter in competition. The sprinter has less than 10 seconds to justify years of sacrifice and training. The weightlifter has 6 attempts.

If this makes the reader nervous, perhaps some soul searching should be done. One the other hand if this is a challenge to be devoured, here is a basic step that when applied, will help you stay focused on your goals and help you achieve them. Don’t look back.

For the first 6 months to a year of training, try not to let 48 hours go by without doing light technique work. The body is learning new movement patterns and motor skills so the best way to improve technique is to make proper movement a habit. Forget about where you are now, focus on where you want to be. See the big picture. Don't Look Back.

If life gets in the way and you go 3-4 days or longer without training you won't get anywhere with self-criticism and guilt by thinking you'll make up for it by training twice as much the next week. Train on the same days for the same amount of time. Do your best to pick up where you left off and establish good habits. Don't Look Back.

Everyone will miss some training due to work, family emergencies, or injuries.. All of us will deal with these challenges in our own way. It's not a matter of if you'll face challenges in life but when and how often. Success has just as much to do with your attitude than it does your effort. You are always in control of both. Stay Focused. Never Look Back.
